The round shape has a long tradition: the Romans are said to have used it to prepare sweet pastries. It is also called Gugelhupf, bowl and wreath shape, but always has the typical chimney in the middle, which also adorns classic pudding shapes. The hole in the middle has a function: the heat can be quickly distributed throughout the mold and allows the dough to bake evenly.
